Taste, enjoy and learn about the southern part of Southern Kurzeme!

Do you know the aroma of the Grobiņa castle hill at sunrise, when Viking boats can be spotted through the fog?

The scent involves lavender, the forest and the fresh water. You’ll hear the quiet whinnying of horses from the North. From the South you will hear women from Bārta joining the sonorous voices of Nīca and Rucava. Girls will be wearing acorn crowns, while women will wear colourful folk costumes. On the coast, fishermen will be arriving with their morning catch, and a meal will be prepared on an open campfire. What will be served? Find out during “Home Café Days” from July 16-18, when 17 cafés in the region will be waiting for your visit.

Long forgotten childhood flavours, the mastery of women in kitchens, unusual combinations of flavours and traditional values – these are all part of the “Home Café” process. It is like a large garden festival which allows you to learn about places in each administrative district that you knew nothing about before. The loveliness and calm of the environment, and particularly the people who are prepared to open up their farms to be together with others. The hospitality of people in southern Kurzeme can be a bit tough, but it is always sincere. After your visit, your tummy will be full, but you will also have learned about and enjoyed new things or tried your hand at some new practice.
